Check Your Portion Size

As Americans, we live in a country where everything is supersized. The drinks contain enough liquid to fill a pitcher, the burgers are double and triple stacked patties, and the plates are bigger than our heads. We’ve all heard the saying that “our eyes are bigger than our stomachs.” For Americans, that cannot be more true. But what are these extreme portion sizes doing to us as a country?

According to a Lancet study, the United States is the most overweight country in the world with two-thirds of our country being overweight or obese, double the rest of the world. Some of you are probably thinking that the data is skewed. We cannot possibly be that fat! Other countries are suffering with famine, so when comparing us against the whole world of course it will be dramatic, because the other fat countries are balanced out by the famished ones.

When looking at individual countries, the US is number 1 for obesity followed by China. So let’s face it, we have a problem America! Luckily, the solution is rather easy. If you want to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you are eating. One important way to do that is to be realistic with your portion sizes.
